A friend asked me if I was getting it a few days ago. I told her no, and only said that I was a little disappointed in it, that they removed some Pokemon I liked. I didn't want to talk about how awful it looked overall, because I knew she was excited for it. She was actually really surprised and disappointed from just that, that they removed Pokemon that had even been around for so long, and said it almost made her not want to get the game.
So presumably she doesn't know about how bad everything else looks either, and it's probably the same for the large majority of people. They just know Pokemon = good, so surely Newest Pokemon = good.
I'm not sure casuals will even pick up on all the things that are so wrong with the game, but I think ultimately they'll be disappointed and bored by it. It's just going to be a waste of time and money for so many. Probably a lot of mediocre christmases too.
