>>37818275They're older than that. The same models are used in the BW opening. They were preparing these years in advance, with the intent of using them for several generations of games. They can't just remodel every Pokemon without rebooting the franchise (which they have no intent of doing).
If it makes you feel better (or worse), the models being used in the Mewtwo movie remake may be the ones they start using instead 4 or 5 years from now.
