I didn't realize helmet kid was Scarlet mostly because I'm not actively reading arcs before they're "done" (pre full volume releases anyway), I just happened to see people freaking out over it and eating the engagement bait prior to the reveal. As for XY desu it's less of a particular part of the story that annoyed me but the premise itself, which bleeds into how I saw everything else that followed. A depressed zoomer hermit guy is the protagonist while badass sky trainer Y is literally right there. Obviously there's more to the premise with childhood trauma and the pressures of societal expectation and whatnot, but based on the macro view alone I'll always feel robbed. Also X's friends having to carry his ass around in a tent just because he's depressed annoyed me way more than anything Ruby ever did, which is saying something.I also don't care as much about cameos anymore since I think Pokespecial just needs to end, and that Kusaka/Yamamoto should retire so they don't die at their desks. TPC can pick another one of its billion Japan-exclusive mangas to shill overseas instead. But I won't pretend to understand Japanese work culture autism.
