>>34402989>I assume most people thought, when Gen 2 came out, that they represented the sea and the sky until Gen 3I assumed, and was under the impression this was the general though, that Lugia represented the Night and Ho-Oh represented the Day, until Gen 7 came along. After all, they were the mascots of Gen 2, where the main gimmick was the Day/Night cycle.
Ho-Oh shines in 7 colors of light and is worshipped much like a Sun god, especially due to its capacity to bring life and happiness. Things always look better in the morning
Lugia rest in the dark depths of the ocean (the Moon and the oceans are commonly associated, of course), is seen as more dangerous than Ho-Oh and that one elder in Ecruteak tells the tale of how Lugia showed up and turned day into night, calling in dark clouds and eclipsing the very Sun with its body.
Ho-Oh never seemed particularly associated with the Sky to me, and Rayquaze quickly took that role.
Now that Solgaleo and Lunala exist though, I'm not sure this still makes sense. I guess Solgaleo could be the Sun while Ho-Oh is Day, and Lunala could be the Moon while Lugia is the Night.
