Masuda reusing the world ending legendary/evil team/adventure formula wasn't ideal, but at the end of the day it's simple. As such it's less annoying when it's reused. It's a classic story trope.
Ohmori's tropes are more anime-like and it's probably more noticable to non-Japanese fans as a result.
