It's unbelievable how consistently shit the designs are.
I'm surprised something as good as Volcarona came from the gen and Volcarona is a prime example of how simplicity is key in making good designs. There's no dumb as fuck 'whacky' face and eyes slapped onto the design, there's no messing with the anatomy and adding useless shit, there's no overdesign to be seen. It's essentially a fire moth and it looks great because of that. It has a pure insectoid looking face, it has a regular looking moth body, regular looking wings, simple and well matching colour scheme.
