It's too late at night, and I get unreasonably wired about this sort of thing.
The TL;DR version of what I would say, however is that leather coats aren't an atrocity as long as they go with the rest of your outfit- and that outfit isn't blue jeans and some t-shirt for a band or something.
A nice, trim leather coat would have been nice.
Or wool.
