XY was great for like the first few gyms then felt like it was puttering out after getting Mega evos. ORAS was so easy that I decided to use 4 pokemon instead of 6
but that just meant I was spreading EXP across fewer pokemon, making my team overpowered even sooner.
I liked SM's change in structure as well as the Ultra beasts but upon realizing the kahunas, the trials, and captains were all functionally the same thing as the gyms and gym leaders my eyes had glazed over for a majority of the playthrough. Better than XY but still full of missed potential.
Didn't fall for the Ultra Changes meme, didn't touch LGPE, didn't touch SS because of the fake brick scare and now I just don't care enough to pick it up now. Maybe I'll get it when all the DLC is released.
I like most of the new pokemon. I'll still buy a little figurine or a pack of cards here and there. I like that the Gen 8 box legendaries are mysterious elusive Pokemon instead of planet busters. I still like the franchise, but I've come to accept that the mainline games are just never going to appeal to me anymore.
