It was Gold that really grabbed me (and Emerald next gen that solidified my passion for Pokemon). I'll never forget my Totodile first evolving, the shiny Caterpie I caught on Route 30 and kept with me throughout my journey, competing in the Bug Catching Contest, getting the medicine for Jasmine, catching the Red Gyarados, and for some reason the Electrode in the Rocket Base.
Of course, I never got to Kanto thanks to my retarded child brain, but Johto gave so many wonderful memories that I've been clinging on to the series ever since, even tho the main games jump to 3D continues to disappoint me.
