The remaking of some of the maps, and the shrinking of areas were fantastic changes that make the game far more enjoyable. Unfortunately these new maps came with a massive amount of mapping errors. There's so many in fact that it's baffling how none of these were caught.
Availability of pokemon being made far more lenient is a great change that hopefully is expanded upon in the future. Just the chance to get one of the late game Aevian pokemon early is already a huge step in the right direction. Unfortunately a large amount of shitmon are still locked extremely far into the game.
Quality of life is far better now with the additions of the quest log and spice scent lifted straight from desolation. The game was far worse without them.
The story and characters is still a massive clusterfuck of retardation as expected. The remade content for the first half of the game is actually a massive improvement from what it once was. However the paragon route is honestly kinda boring. A lot of it is cutscenes of you hanging out with characters you most likely don't care about. Of course the further you get into the new content the more you wished Jan avoided the characters you cared about.
Unfortunately Jan took it upon himself this update to attempt to make me hate nearly every female character in this story. However in the casualties caused by his actions 2 characters in the paragon route stood out above the rest. Crescent being made likeable, and Aelita managing to avoid most if not all the character assassination. While I now have my eye on Crescent, Aelita is still easily best girl.
Overall I would give this update a 5-6/10 currently, and if you ignore some of the new things in the paragon route a 8/10.
