When I look back on it I'm actually kind of shocked how much merchandise I had, since I was on the younger side for the kids experiencing it then and it's not like I actively tried to collect the stuff or my parents were rich or anything. Pokémon shit was just so easy to find everywhere that even without trying you could end up with a bunch of it, if you were interested in that and not just the games/anime/cards.
And I don't know if this was a common feeling or just my own experience since I was a dumb kid, but since there were a lot of different interpretations of Gen 1 stuff out there, like not only the obvious games and anime but the different manga series etc. that could be pretty easily found in stores, I didn't feel as sharp of a division between the different mediums despite the obvious discrepancies. It was all POKEMON and it was all cool.
I fucking loved Electric Tale. I feel like maybe it was a bit better known then since there was less of a view of Special as THE manga and both could be found pretty easily in stores.
