Gen 1s designs are so timeless precisely because they're simple amalgamation of things made in a way that appeals to adults as well as kids. That's why actual adults like myself and fiends I know can say with no embarrassment what so ever that we like this gen 1 pokemon, or that gen 1 pokemon. Meanwhile, you try to do that with a gen 5 pokemon that isn't Volcarona (Which is a very gen 1-like design and that is why it's the best Pokemon in the entirety of the gen 5 dex) and you'll look like a child who hasn't grown up.
