People always go on about how much they love Edgelord Blue or Silver and how a Rival should be some tough as nails jackass, but fuck that. They have nothing compelling about them other than "Man I want to beat them what a dick!"
Gen 3 rivals were just people. People wh oyou knew and helped along the way, one of them was an introverted sick kid that you gave hope back to just to crush him. That shit hit me way harder than slapping in Blue's shit ever did.
One of the few things ORAS did a great job with was showing that these were people who just wanted to stand beside you and had to learn that they aren't superhuman like you.
It was really touching.
