People do have a point where it doesn't matter that much though since you can brute force most fights in this game with nonstop healing and defense buffs which is kinda disappointing. If dena wanted to improve the battling in this game they'd encourage us more to us other stuff like trapping, status ailments and debuffs. It's why coballion was one of my favorite LA's when it first came out, most people were running stuff like Flannary and Erika which was pretty cool. Other than that most FF enemy pairs have shit like Lessen burn, paralysis, or confusion on them which is really lame and boring.
