I didn't buy any during the rest of the game and just used whatever I found lying around. And you're damn right it is valid, what kind of difficulty is there to be found in being prepared? It's just another resource for the player to manage, and I bet you wouldn't bat an eye if other RPGs got easier to beat with inventory management.
