GF is indeed making a bold move by releasing a new generation without a full Pokedex, but it's thanks to BW that they got the guts to do so. And why wouldn't they? They still sold like hot cakes despite being incredibly lazy games that relied on recycled assets from Platinum and HGSS. They might have been the lowest selling "main" Pokemon games, but it's undeniable that they were a huge financial success.
Let's be honest here: if BW didn't exist or if it bombed, GF wouldn't even have dreamed of releasing another game without a full Pokedex (and possibly following pokemon and other cut features as well).
They might have dealt a fatal blow to the franchise, one that it will be almost impossible to recover from (and I'm talking about the same thing FFX-2 did to the Final Fantasy series. After that it never fully regained the respect of the fanbase), but the playerbase is responsible for allowing this.
