Not really in terms of "legend", as he doesn't fight ogres or anything like that, but in terms of design...he looks a lot like the Bisque Doll of Momotaro the Wikipedia Entry uses, and I always thought he looks like a yellow peach, especially the head. Plus he's basically a young boy who works hard to grow strong.
