Worse typing/no Immunity to switch into, no priority to abuse Belly Drum, less coverage. But it would still be a massive improvement for a guy like him who was left behind.

which would still be fine, your win condition would simply amount to neutralising those threats. He wouldn't go down without a fight. We are not building the ultimate pokemon, but just making them more usable.
