The reason why people are fine with Game Freak cutting content is because pokémon has pretty much no competition, the more games of a genre the more people start to see the games' flaws.
Just think about it, when Mario got popular, Sonic, Crash and many other platformers were made to compet against the plumber.
Street Fighter got popular? They made Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, KOF, Mortal Kombat, etc.
Contra? Gunstar Heroes, Metal Slug and so on.
Now look at their genre:
>Platformer.
>Fighting game.
>Run and Gun/Shooter.
All of them are somewhat niche now. Because to the average normalfag there's "too much of the same thing" and since the only pokémon experience they can have is with pokémon, they will defend the games as long as the games has the same amount of content as gen 1...
Because thats ALL they want a pokémon game to be.
