It means that we are NEVER going to get a game with a significant amount of content ever again, and if we don't put a stop to this rubbish, then it will continue to fester and kill the series. Even if they do release a Sword and Shield 2, then there won't be following Pokemon, a Battle Frontier, a National Dex, a second region to explore, and complete compatibility with any of the other games. Is that what you really want, OP? I've had enough of these bad Pokemon games.
What incentive do I even have to buy Sword and Shield? That's right, there isn't one. There isn't a single valid reason to play Sword and Shield over one of the thousands of other great games to play. There's no reason for me to play a phone game on my Switch for $60 + Smartphone + Home + Pokeball++ when there are so many other great games not only on the Switch, but also across 8 generations of consoles to play.
Please do yourself a favor and stop deluding yourself. There is no Emerald on the way. There is no Platinum on the way. There are no Black 2 & White 2 on the way. There are no HGSS level remakes for Diamond and Pearl on the way. There is no game for veteran fans on the way. The only games on the way are the ones where I can't catch them all, and those aren't ones for me.
