Old concepts get recycled all the time, though. Pic related should be familiar to you despite being a relatively new card. If you had a type of deck you used to play, chances are something similar exists today.
As for literal reprints that let you use old cards, Base Set Slowpoke was reprinted recently. A few years ago, they reprinted Hitmonchan, Electabuzz, and a few others from Base Set as well. These are more collectible than actually viable, though.
