>>13135110I still love every pokemon generation, but I have this nagging feeling like every generation is worse, not because of the gameplay or gym leaders or anything, but because they keep recycling pokemon and gameplay concepts (apart from key ones like gyms, rivals, e4), for instance
>legendary trios>legendary sprite>strong legendary>pseudolegendary>typical common bird and rodent pokemon>generic fish pokemon>in general just keep remaking pokemon lines when it's unnecessarily making earlier pokemon lines redundant and useless)gen 5 had some cool changes from the staleness of gen 4, for instance, how your true rival (N) played into the game. but man, when i go back and play blue, free of nostalgia, and i see that they introduced all these concepts freshly and all of the pokemon were standalone, not based on a preexisting pokemon; it still feels like a fresh experience because it doesnt have to live up to the name of the other games in the series. it just feels fresh, even if it's 15 years old. it doesn't feel like i'm playing something i've played before.
i just cant help but feel like gamefreak doesn't know how to take a risk. i just wish they would take a risk and design a new pokemon game. even gold and silver, which was still pretty fresh (most likely because of the introduced types and the small amount of existing pokemon in red/blue), couldnt help but repeat archetypes from gen 1. mind you, they introduced mechanics to each of the archetypes to make it fresher (made legendary trio wandering, made strong legendary a duo instead of one, etc), but even past that it feels like nintendo keeps reiterating on the formula of GSC's modification of red/blue standards. it feels like they're applying deodorant instead of taking a shower
