>>34677930Ok, this is from the Beta but from Red/Blue. Before the name of every Pokémon Trainer kind -you know, Lass, Bugcatcher, Picknicker and the like- a "The" was supposed to appear, so the sentence made sense ("The Hiker wants to battle!").
But this created a problem with the Gym Leaders, who had their name displayed instead of their trainer class. So the translators decided to forgo the "The" at the beginning, giving us the weird sentence structure for the regular trainers but keeping it coherent when battling the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four members.
