Ultmately, the problem with LGPE is that it's the return of the most boring region ever: Kanto. What makes Kanto so boring is that aside from some places like Pokemon Tower or Cinnabar Island, most of Kanto is filled with long, tiresome routes, basic towns/cities, and caves. Atleast with other regions, there's culture and charm in every town, city, and even routes. Kanto pokemon are so limited and good portion of them are trash, so you're stuck with making the same tiresome teams early on. And lastly once you beat the game, there's nothing left to Kanto other than finding legendaries. Now, I didn't mind this at first for RBY since it's the first game, but remake after remake, nothing's really changed about the region other than graphics. It's worst when you have go through that exact same region over and over again. That's what LGPE looks like, the same region rehashed again, but in 3D. If they could just make a Kanto game, where 10 years into the future, Kanto is revamped with new towns/citys and routes as well as new hidden areas to find. New Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champion as well as a Regional tournament with returning Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champions. But I know GameFreak won't do this, because either it would piss off genwunners, or it would be too much effort to put in. So in conclusion, Kanto is just pretty stale at this point, so why keep going back to it?
