Try as I might to hate the game, I just couldn't. It had enough soul and tried hard to get me to like it and won me over. I liked that the story was a bit more mature without it being edgy, you get a sense that this was a forgotten time when Pokemon were unknown, dangerous creatures that could kill you.
Things I hope stay forever:
>Open world encounters with more than one wild mon
>Trainers getting hurt and being able to black out (adds an extra sense of urgency to the game and immersion)
>Pokemon being caught with items and stealth if you don't want to go the turn based route
>Evolutions when you want them so you don't have to keep pressing B
>You having access to a Pokemon's learnset which you can change at any time
>Really easy Effort Values
>Pokedex filling based on objectives rather than just catching the mons
And I hope these things stay with items and abilities and infinite TMs again as well as nature mints and IVs. There's really no need for this useless grinding bullshit that they keep sneaking back in slowly. And it was nice to have a reasonably challenging game without needing to grind; I found myself having fun changing teams a lot because it's not about a set team but more about you having the right mons for the job.
I found myself not missing held items and abilities very much, desu. It was just nice to get into the world and to feel more like I was in an RPG, exploring and just relaxing and having fun.
Just, for the love of god, hire a graphics person this time.
