I remember Aaron pretty well for some reason, and Flint's Flint, but I will never be able to remember those other two. As for their difficulty, I replayed Platinum somewhat recently, but don't remember the E4 being anything special, so they probably just have typical pokemon difficulty.
XY's is one of the E4s I remember more for whatever reason, probably outside factors like how /vp/ was my home board during gen 6 and they had a stage in Smash.
Gen 1-3's are more in a realm of "yeah I guess I can remember" while gen 5, 7, and 9's are more clear, though 9 would obviously have recency bias.
8 didn't even have an E4 did it
