Maybe back when there was only 150 of them, yeah, and even then it was a hard choice.
If someone makes me pick, I'll just fag out of it and say either Pikachu or Charizard, as I picked Charmander in Red, I was always catching lizards and holding dinosaur toys as a kid so it was only natural. But then I had to get a copy of Yellow since I was stupid enough to let someone "Borrow" my copy of Red and he didn't come to school the next day, or ever again after that.
Also I had a Pocket Pikachu, as a kid, and the anime was a big part of the reason why I got the game ( though Ken Sugimori's artwork in Nintendo Power next to an ad for Pocket Pikachu is what made me curious enough to tune in at 6AM. )
Those two pokemon never dissapoint me either... just so long as I get a light ball for Pikachu anyway.
