I was planning to start with Arcanine but I forgot the Perfect Crystal hack removes the level 5 Growlithes in route 36 for some reason. Aside from the starter, all the mons were first time uses for gen 2.

Quick Claw is required for it. Otherwise, the low speed and special defense greatly hold it back, especially if you're trying to keep Return's power high. I doubt I'll use one again unless it's one of the later games where it's a fairy type. At least it levels up really fast.

King's Rock is amazing on it thanks to the high speed. Headbutt flinches a lot and it makes it easier to power up Fury Cutter. Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of chances to set up with Agility or Swords Dance in the end game aside from Bruno.

Tyrogue didn't hatch from the odd egg so I hacked one in because fuck waiting until Waterfall to get one. It was great against Pryce and Mind Reader/Dynamic Punch came in handy for Karen's annoying Umbreon. The low HP and defense really sucks though.

Spent a fortune on that Thunder TM since it's the only STAB it gets. Rain Dance made it worth it though. That combo helped bypass Kingdra's Smokescreen spam. I also lucked out with Hidden Power Water. Glad I grinded for Thunder Wave. Lance's Aerodactyl is dangerous when you're playing on set.

Surprisingly good. It even has some advantages over Lapras like slightly higher speed and it levels up MUCH faster. Rest helped remove the Thunder Wave paralysis. In hindsight, I should've given it one or two more levels before fighting Lance. Since its base special attack is only 70, even STAB Ice Beam with Nevermeltice doesn't quite one shot the Dragonites because they have the HGSS levels in Perfect Crystal. That two level bump makes a world of difference in that fight.
