>>41391615This, 1000%. In previous generations I'd could go down a route and see a branching path blocked off by rocks or boulders or whatever. The lack of accessibility peaked my curiosity, and made we want to return later in order to explore.
People shit on it a lot, but Mount Coronet was a great example of this. The first time you go inside of it, this is the room you see. Right away you can see that there are parts of the cave blocked off with pools of water, and as you explore the room you see that there are items on the other sides of those pools. That itself is usually enough to make someone want to come back, but it also let us see the place where we would later use Rock Climb to make our way up to the Spear Pillar.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the very first time we see that particular obstacle. Not just in the game, but in the entire Pokemon series, apart from external information like magazines/internet and the game manual.
There's also the way it's framed within the game, in that you can see that it leads up to a ledge, but not where that ledge leads. This all adds to the mystery of the area, as well as the desire to come back and explore, which is entirely intentional. The instant I got Rock Climb, the first place that popped into my head was this cave, and I'm sure it was the same for a lot of you.
