There are a LOT of legless lizards that have convergently evolved tiny, useless limbs or have done away with them entirely. Boas and pythons have spurs that are the distant remnants of hind limbs. The origin of snakes is not entirely understood, but it can be said that they are descended from lizard-like (but not actually lizards) animals.
