I like the game a lot so far but it's honestly a bit strange feeling at first, just because the concept of what a mainline pokemon game plays like has been SO ingrained in our minds for decades now. Completionist types like me probably find it pretty fun for doing the dex tasks and sidequests, and I would have thought that people into "challenge runs" would really like the alpha pokemon fights. But the way this game is presented is so different that I guess those challenging battles don't feel as satisfying to some people without the same linear sense of progression as the usual mainline fare. I don't feel that way at all myself but I suppose I can understand that perspective. It just feels weird for those people to be bitching so much about this game when literally every other mainline game serves up the same formula they like except for just this one.
