It helps it stand out while also hinting at its typing. It isn't even a very garish shade of yellow. Changing the yellow too much would make it "literally my mom's corgi," while changing the natural colors to make it stand out more would probably clash too much with the design, which has (compared to say, Snubbull) relatively realistic proportions.
Unfortunately, with so many people out there, you can't please everybody. For fun, though, I toned down the yellow to make it more "natural." Looks pretty boring now.
