there isn't a single aspect of this franchise that deserves even $9 of revenue, let alone $90 billion and an effective monopoly on their genre.
the games are an absolute fucking joke, game freak can't even make the most basic jrpgs without cutting corners and screwing things up. this is despite having more resources and help than most franchises will ever see. we don't even get spinoffs anymore to distract us from how bad the main games are. those have been replaced by mobile cash grabs.
the pokemon anime is the worst series in the history of anime. it's just unbelievable how stagnant it's been for 20+ years. ash is pathetic and they're too scared to move on from him. how can anyone enjoy seeing him lose the league over and over again? at this point, it's sending a horrible message to kids. the moral of the anime is "don't follow your dreams because you'll always fail."
detective pikachu was soulless hollywood garbage, but it's going to spawn a marvel-esque "cinematic universe" because nu-males are easily impressed.
the manga is a mismanaged mess where plot threads get dropped for years and then the author forgets what he was going to do with them when he finally has time to revisit them.
i don't follow trading card games, but what i've heard about the tcg on here sounds like more typical mismanagement.
even pokemon's bread and butter, the merchandise, misses the whole point of the series with its favoritism. japan and shillmons get all the cool shit, everyone else gets the scraps.
the worst part is that nothing will ever improve. pokemon will just continue to shamble around as a zombie franchise forever, never making good on its potential. it's sad.
