But when you're an adult, doing tedious grinding just feels like an unnecessary chore that doesn't really make the player feel like they themselves have gotten better at the game. You're just brute forcing some numbers to go up by doing some tedious tasks.
If I were to be stuck at a part of the game because my team was underleveled and grinded my team up to a suitable level to beat that hurdle, I could easily hand my pokemon to an idiot and they can clear that hurdle too with my pokemon no problem. On the other hand if my team were underleveled and I kept tackling the hurdle and getting more efficient at it with each attempt until I managed to barely beat it, now THAT'S satisfying.
