Even though I like Samurott more than Dewott, I find Dewott one of the quintessential middle stages of the series. Conceptually, its the stage were Oshawott wants to become a warrior rather than an ordinary ocean dweller and becomes determined to understand its obsession with using seashells as weapons and shields(which is why Samurott makes this literal by wearing seashells as armor and fights with blade-shaped seashells.) Visually, it balances the other two as it heavily shares the otter-characteristics from Oshawott and samurai motifs from Samurott as Dewott can pass as an Ashigaru(foot soilder employed by the samurai class from feudal japan) whereas Samurott covers higher ranks such as Daimyo and Shogun as the higher ranks were mostly mounted and had beards. It makes sense that Oshawott and Samurott don't look alike as they were designed for different life styles but Dewott blends both Oshawott's otter lifestyle and Samurott's aquatic warrior lifestyle which is what makes it one of the best middle stagers.
