It gave the gym leader time to finish whatever fuck they were doing before you finish the "gym test". They battle you for 10-15 minutes, give you a badge, then go back to whatever they were doing. Make sense why someone like Tyme would rather teach full time than get annoy every hour because a kid from school want to battle them.
