HG/SS have the kind of content and effort Pokemon games should aspire to have regularly but at the same time its hard to go back to with its shitty HMs, level curve and Pokemon distribution.
3rd editions are also hard to rank, sure they offer more than the base games but that doesn't change the fact that its a blatant resell that renders the prior games irrelevant
