Alola Forms being Kanto only was a disgusting waste of potential, tons of Z-moves being given just to Kantomons sucked ass, not-Nugget Bridge, not-Surge's gym and not-Team Rocket were all so fucking awkward to look at. I'd imagine the intent is to do a funny little reference for longtime fans of the series, but if someone who had been playing the series since Gen 1, they would appreciate more than just Kanto references, and yet those are pretty scarce overall.
It all came off as out of touch, or maybe GF knows people who played every gen will always Buy Anyway, so they just leave the nods in for the KANTOOO audience who hopped back into the franchise after Pokemon GO, Either way, all of it was enough to make seeing Zard being Leon's ace enough for me to lose interest in Gen 8. It seems like the Kanto pandering has only gotten worse since then.
