This anime has many throwbacks to previous series' canon, and unlike the last few series, is not a soft reboot really at all. James gets Mime Jr. and Yamask back in Kanto. Meowth is replaced by G-Meowth in TR who talks in a funny accent and is originally trained by Ash for at least much of the first season. Ash gets old Meowth, gigantamaxing. G-Meowth evolves into Perrserker and has a rivalry with old Meowth. James will probably evolves Mime Jr. and Yamask. Jessie gets Hattena and Cufant early jn the series in Galar, and still has Wobb. James has RELATIONSHIP with Eiscue at least in the beginning.
Ash piggybacks on his old Pokemon all the time. He doesn't catch anything the first season. Bulbasaur and Squirtle, Heracross, and Kingler (giga) are among the first returnees. He doesn't use any non Kanto/Johto mons. Gau gets Raboot end of furst season and additionally is the trainer of Rookiedee.
Gym leaders only battle Ash. Nessa is the first one with Drednaw. Gyms are not in order from the games
