ALL writing is written at the whims of the authors. That is an objective fact. Alain winning was at the whim of the author, not on some material fact that Alain was stronger. Everything you see in media comes at the whims of what the author decides to write. The difference between GOOD writing and BAD writing is the emotions the writing makes us feel, how it enriches our lives, and the strength of its narrative. Alain winning is BAD writing because it makes the audience feel like shit and directly conflicts with the narrative of the ENTIRE SEASON which was leading to Ash's victory. Making Ash lose twice before hand, which obviously sets up the victory on the final third attempt. The whole thing with the promise to carry on the dreams of all the people who failed, just like Ash has failed time and time again. All of these writing DECISIONS made BY THE AUTHOR lead to what should've been satisfying ending with Ash winning, but instead lead to what is very justifiably called the Kalos League DISASTER.
