Pokemon went from a phenomenon beyond description in Gen 1 to getting mogged by the Nintendo VS Sony consolewars AS A SIDE EFFECT rather than Sony's main intention of releasing the PS2, and at no point could Gen 2 or Gen 3 help Pokemon's American reputation recover.
Completely dragged into the fucking dirt by the consolewars, and then sabotaged by its own Nintendo kin thanks to Wind Waker doing no favors against the "Nintendo is kiddieshit" allegations.
