>>56715523I get what you're trying to say and I can't say I completely disagree on the potential of shit just happening to get cracked, but AES-256 as it stands is like... I can't even say bedrock, because even bedrock can be chipped at. As it stands to all of our current knowledge is it the strongest possible encryption method ever, and likely will be for as long as humankind exists for reasons that'd take a fucking essay I can't say I'm quite capable enough to give you. Quantum computing theoretically can't even reasonably crack it, but that's something waaaaaaaaaaaay over my paygrade. But doubting these things is the smart thing to do anyways, pride before the fall and all that.
>>56715540The funny part is that's basically what Kadokawa completely and utterly failed at protecting. They're a mega... conglomerate? Dunno what you'd call it, but point is they're a big powerhouse in Japan in basically all entertainment fields, and that's one of Japan's biggest exports. But when they were hacked and demanded a ransom, you wanna know what they did?
They went, effectively, "please my mom will be so mad if you don't give it back". They ended up telling the hackers about some succession war bullshit and internal drama that could throw the company into (even more) chaos... for fucking nothing. As a way to plea with them to not ask for even more money than they were already asking for. And at that point the only thing going through my mind was the force of the fucking impact from my palm hitting my face. I've seen many, MANY stupid things in my life, but that alone took the fucking cake. Even giving a burglar, in the process of leaving your home, everything needed to steal your identity would'va been smarter. I feel terrible for the thousands upon thousands of people who got hard doxxed by that.
