Cinderace had Slowbro which is a psychic type, Charizard got his ass kicked by Azumarill, which used fairy moves.
Poison types however need either strong STAB ground types or psychic types to get their asses fucked like it was Christopher Street Day.
Ground types will have problems with water moves from the frog while psychic types have problems with dark types, though.
I'd still use a ground or psychic type that has a high special defense and a secondary type so water and dark moves will be neutral at least. Water Absorb or Dry Skin would also be great. I was thinking of Toxicroak
