I'm pretty sure a bity girl with an extra bodily organ for keeping water to regurgitate might be interesting but not hunt down to capture and dissect interesting, especially since for all they know it's the sole member of said species. People discover new species fairly regularly and they don't immediately have the FBI track down the last known living member to cut open.
>>39283094>it'd go critical and kill all your technicians with radiation.I... uh, hate to tell you this, but you don't really get things, do you? Criticality is the state in which each fission of—in this case a 235U atom, but in any case a fissile material—directly leads to another fission of a 235U atom or your fuel of choice, not 0.998 fissions per fission, not 1.002 fissions per fission, exactly one. It's the typical operating state of a nuclear power plant.
Supercriticality, that 1.002 state from earlier, is the bad thing because that leads to *prompt* criticality. You probably wouldn't live from going PC but that's due to the massive burst of energy, not the radiation. In reality, uranium or plutonium radiation is not all that bad
and linear no threshold is a fuckin meme with such a long half-life as it has. The gloves people wear when touching uranium pellets aren't to shield from radiation, they'd be useless at that except for alpha particles that would be deflected by skin anyway, they're so that they don't get their dirty greasy finger oil all over the expensive as shit fuel.
