>>47527923It's not just Steel getting nerfed that killed Metagross. It would've dropped to UU in Gen 5 if not for the Ambipom effect of people who really liked it using it a lot more than it should've been. What changed between Gens 4 and 5 that turned Metagross from an A-tier Pokemon in OU to a C-tier Pokemon in OU was the Explosion nerf, oddly enough.
And yes, Metagross is considered as viable in OU in Gen 5, its last stint in the tier minus its mega, as Riolu, Liepard, and Bronzong. Metagross always had terrible offensive presence, and neutering its BOOM cucked it permanently.
