Pokemon attacks don't usually threaten people to an extreme because would require you to be willing to kill a character off (or severely cripple them), which they don't really want to provide confirmation of. It's not good for the image. Even in pic related, after Rayquaza had fucked Zinnia up and she has to be confined to a wheelchair, they go out of their way to explain that she will recover from this in time.
