Digital worlds are independent from the real world. Depending of the universe, it can require the real world to exist (Digimon 1984), but everytime it managed to broke their link (in Digimon 1984, the Digital World was created by a group of scientists who tried to play god creating an automated world made of AI, until one of the AI truly became sentient watching the scientist from his world and tried to attack her, then the world continued to exist and develop to form the world of Digimon Tamers). In some other universe, from the very beginning, the Digimon had nothing to do with computers, it's just that computers created a way for humans to see this world. It's the case in Digimon Adventure and Digimon Survive (in this one, the Digimon, called Kemonogami, existed since, at least, a thousand years).
The guy in the pic went to the "Digital World" during the Kamakura period, so between 1185 and 1333. I'm not good with history, but I don't think there were computers then. Also, even before, they tell you that at one point in the past, the 2 worlds were 1. So no, chewing a cable wouldn't do shit.
