>1. is TSS a good team type to learnno, not really, it is liable to induce brainrot and misconstrue what the tier actually is
at this point, when you're playing Big 5 Toxic Sand Spikes: you're just playing Big 5 TSS... it is no longer representative of the whole metagame, nor does it allow you to accurately witness the full dynamics of the tier
I don't even believe TSS either facilitates newbies in terms of ranking up, nor in terms of helping you learn (two separate things: you can gain elo while not understanding a team or tier)
Who do I recommend Big 5 TSS to? People who actually like what overarching style the TSS archetype is: a balance with a stall dimension and some offensive options. If you prefer hyper offense, you both don't need to run it, nor should you necessarily run it. If you prefer stall, well this team probably is one of the best options you can pursue, because it's just about as close as you're going to get to hard stall being viable in this metagame---it's not particularly good, difficult to build and difficult to win with. It teaches you the machinations of that decently well.
Overall I don't even think it's the best archetype, and hasn't been for at least 2 years.
