If Shota manages to get all 8 badges, which he no doubt will, he and Ash are basically locked in for battle come league time since a rivalry has been established between Grovyle and Gekogashira. If Ash goes the Hoenn route and only uses his Kalo's mons, I could see this as being where he is eliminated since Shota knows who all of Ashs current mons are currently. However if Ash dips into his reserves, it heightens his chances to go all of the way and counter whatever Mega's he may come to face.
We have a potential for 3 Megas so far.
Mega Blastoise with Tierno
Mega Sceptile with Shota
and, depending if Trevor is participating in Leagues, MegaZard X/Y/Z
I'm scared guys, I want this to be his year. I want him to win it all, but Mega's are built up to be Sayayin levels of strong in the anime. For Ash to overcome multiple come the League, I just don't see it.
