I think there's not enough discussion among western fans about what "aura" is supposed to be and what Lucario is actually based on.
In japanese aura is called "waves" and the Adventures manga describes it as "similar to sound". Meanwhile the abilities of Xerneas and Yvetal are actually called aura in all languages.
Whenever people talk about Lucario's inspiration they always seem to copy and paste the same stuff about being "based on Anubis" and "egyptian kickboxing" (is that even a thing?) and "reading auras is totally like Anubis weighting people's hearts to judge them in the afterlife". It strikes me as rationalizing tough. Whenever Lucario's fighting style is portrayed in animation or video-games it looks nothing like kickboxing imo. He seems to be a take on the classic "fighting monk" archtype similar to Medicham and Mienshao, alttough with a bigger dose of Dragon Ball Z.
I wonder if the concept of aura/waves here may the reason behind Lucario's steel typing.
